H on the Harbor and Sara & Stuart Lucks, WFUV Radio

When Shelby Lynne won the Best New Artist Grammy in 2001, she had already released six albums, but it was the award-winning album, "I Am Shelby Lynne," that defined her as a musician. Her work ranges from country, blues, Southern soul, roots rock, to Western swing, jazz, and adult contemporary. Shelby’s 2008 release -- “Just a Little Lovin’” -- is a tribute to British blues legend Dusty Springfield.

| Steve Earle Solo & Acoustic with Allison Moorer |
| |
Saturday, January 24, 2009 8 PM
Sponsored by Beth & Dan Eule
|
He’s been called a country-musician, and he’s been called roots-rocker. We call Steve Earle one of the most influential musicians, blending these genres through the last three decades with albums like “Guitar Town” and “Copperhead Road.” Most recently, he won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album, “Washington Square Serenade.” Singer/songwriter Allison Moorer (who is not only Earle’s wife, but is also Shelby Lynne’s sister) opens the show.

Peter Yarrow’s place in folk music is etched in the history books with creativity, and political advocacy as a member of Peter, Paul and Mary. His latest project is multi-generational: Peter has joined his daughter, Bethany Yarrow, whose mesmerizing voice soars above him, counter pointed by her cellist and musical partner, Rufus Cappadocia, as they share with Peter their boundary-breaking reinterpretation of folk and roots music.
